Amethyst

Amethyst is the purple variety of quartz. The name Amethyst comes from the Greek word that means “not drunken” in reference to it’s almost wine like color. Amethyst is the traditional birthstone for February.

Black Onyx

Black onyx is often referred to as the anniversary gemstone for the 10th year of marriage. Its dense black color makes it the perfect stone to offset either black or white apparel, but will coordinate with almost anything you wear.

Blue Topaz

Topaz comes in a range of colors, but blue topaz is a favorite of the semi-precious stone admirers. Its bright color compliments both silver and gold. Topaz is the traditional birthstone for November and can represent the 4th and 19th year of marriage.

Diamond

Diamonds, a precious gemstone, are the most popular gemstones of all time. Diamonds used for jewelry are graded on the basis of color, clarity, cut, and carat. Diamond is also the birthstone for April and represents the 30th and 60th wedding anniversaries.

Emerald

Emeralds are a precious gemstone, most commonly found in a primary green color. Emerald represents the 20th, 35th and 55th year of marriage and is the traditional birthstone for May.

Garnet

Garnet is the birthstone for January. It comes in many colors, pink, red, purple, green, orange, violet, colorless, and occasionally black. The origin of the name comes from the Greek language in reference to a pomegranate seed. At Ed Levin we use the traditional brownish-red garnet and a more pink or red garnet known as rhodolite garnet.

Hematite

Hematite is the mineral form of iron oxide. It ranges in color from reddish brown to black. We use a striking steely black in our designs. Hematite was at it highest in popularity during the Victorian era, but is currently gaining ground as a popular gemstone.

Pearl

Birthstone alternate for the month of June. Freshwater Pearl is also recognized as the anniversary gemstone for the first year of marriage. The colors of pearls vary with the mollusk and its environment. Hence no two natural pearls are alike. Cultured pearls are natural but are cultivated by using a foreign object has been intentionally inserted in to the mollusks shell. The shape of the object will determine the shape of the pearl when harvested - from round to square.

Peridot

Peridot is one of the few gemstones that occurs in only one color, olive green. However, there is a range of tints and intensities within that color. We use a mid-range, bright green that looks great when set in either silver or gold. Peridot is the birthstone for August and represents the 16th year of marriage.

Ruby

Ruby is a precious gemstone and the birthstone for July. For thousands of years the ruby has been considered one of the most valuable stones on earth. It has everything a precious stone is recognized for, magnificent brilliance, hardness, exceptional color and allure.

Sapphire

Sapphire is a precious gemstone and the birthstone for September. It can be found in a variety of colors such as pink, white, orange, purple and blue. Blue is the favorite of most, derived by it's name in Greek.

Tanzanite

Tanzanite is a gorgeous bluish-lavender stone that ranges in intensity and hue. It can be used in place of turquoise as the birthstone for December.

Opal

Birthstone for October. Available in a variety of colors and textures. Unlike other gemstones, the opal is non-crystalline and is formed from a hardened silica gel. It is known for its rainbow iridescence. The name opal is thought to be derived from the Sanskrit 'upala', meaning 'precious stone'.

Tourmaline

Tourmaline is the alternative birthstone for October. We use pink tourmaline in some of our designs, but it can be found in many colors such as blue, yellow, pink, red, black, green, and clear. It is recognized as the stone for the eighth wedding anniversary.

Turquoise

Turquoise is the alternative Birthstone for December. Turquoise is a fairly soft stone that can be found in many places around the globe. This stone ranges in color from sky blue to green to greenish yellow. We use the traditional color that is between blue and green. Turquoise is the anniversary gemstone for the 5th year of marriage.
